Many see granite as an expensive choice but it doesn’t always have to be; using marble granite tiles instead of custom cut slabs can work out cheaper while you still utilise the beauty and hardiness of natural granite stone. The cost of granite is based upon a number of elements; it is often quarried in difficult to get to places and has to be transported as large slabs to a workshop where it is cut into smaller pieces and polished. These slabs are then transported to wholesalers and dealers where individual specifications are used to further cut up a slab into the size and shape of someone’s kitchen or bathroom or desk. Cutting individual pieces into unique sizes and shapes will add to the cost; whereas buying standard shaped tiles means you don’t have to pay for this additional work.

Granite tiles come in a variety of sizes and shapes and it is certain you will find a variety which is appropriate for your needs. They are installed in the same way as full sized slabs but will have the additional requirement that they be ‘cemented’ together if two or more lie next to each other. Of course, if you were ordering a custom cut slab then all cutting would be done at source and installation would be a simple affair of placing them in their appropriate position. When buying marble granite tiles some tiles may need to be cut in order that they fit properly into the position you want them in. Often, that means making allowance for taps or other pipes or plumbing, or perhaps just an unusually shaped kitchen or bathroom. This requires special tools since granite is a very hard stone and not easily cut. So you will then have the additional decision whether to organise the tools to cut and install them yourself or else get a specialist to do it for you.

Many people choose tiles for financial reasons, but this should not make you think they are merely a cheap alternative. The granite in tiles is the same as that in larger slabs and has all the luxury and shine, and strength, of marble granite. Tiles have an additional design feature of breaking up the uniformity of a large surface and are often picked for that reason. An interesting pattern can become more interesting still when it is part of a carefully chosen and placed series of marble granite tiles in your home.
